Don't we all wish we could dedicate our lives to caring for our loved ones, eating right, traveling, exercising... well, you get the picture. This movement is along those lines. I saw a PSA made to promote local organic. Basically, the idea that feeding us all is very energy-intensive! Growing, fertilizing, processing, transporting, packaging, branding, advertising, etc. eats up energy. One interesting statistic is that a box of cereal might provide you with 1100 kilocalories, but it took thousands more to produce it!
This whole movement speaks to eating organic, sure, but also eating locally grown and harvested foods.
And eating with the seasons. Don't you think it's strange to have blueberries 365 days a year? So does Mother Nature.
Anyhow, if this interests you, here is the link for the short video. Enjoy and eat well!

I know, this is a pretty old post. But I found a good website: local harvest and some books on eating local: Animal, Vegetable, Miracle and Plenty
