The Chickens Have Landed
Once there was a woman with a dream. A dream of urban homesteading -- claiming that space in the backyard for her own. Tilling the soils, pruning the fruit trees, raising a garden. And tending the chickens.
That's right, chickens. They are now wandering the vast reaches of the backyard here at 822 Apgar Street in Oakland. They are prehistoric, odd looking, and quite amusing. The little pen we built under the back porch is like Chicken TV. Julie and I cobbled together a nice little coop from the scraps in the backyard.
For the trouble, the chickens (rescued from a factory farm and saved them from the gas chamber) provide an egg or so a day.

Congratulations on getting chickens in your backyard! Nice to see there's yet another urban chicken farmer here in the Bay Area.
Keep us posted on how things look on your chicken TV.
