Hawai'i Vacation

Following Julie's triathlon in Maui, we stuck around for a few days... Okay, it was a week. And it was great! Julie planned it - we stayed in three different places and got a great feel for the whole island. There was plenty of great food, snorkeling, seeing the sights, hiking, swimming, running, exploring lava tubes, drinking beers on the beach, and generally relaxing. One of our favorite spots for snorkeling was here at Honolua Bay -- all those little specs in the water are snorkelers!

We also got to the top of Haleakala (house of the sun) for sunrise. It's a party with dozens of folks who drove from sea level to over 10,000 feet, well above the tops of the clouds), arriving at about 4:15 in the pitch black to catch the first glimpse of light. We basically hung around for one and a half hours watching the colors change and world wake up.
All in all it was beautiful. The island has so much to see and do. It's a bear to get there, but it was more than worth it.
